Glossary
ProposedParts of this chapter are PROPOSED. Each proposed part is tagged where it appears; everything else describes what runs. Charging is off, TAON is not deployed, no TAO reserve exists and no audit has been done.

The words used in these pages, the state words, and what changed and when.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Capability | A kind of work a request needs, such as an answer, a search or a forecast. |
| Route | A provider, or a service on a Bittensor subnet, that can do one capability, reached through one adapter. |
| Candidate | A route eligible for this request, before one is chosen. |
| Selected route | The candidate TAONIC sends the request to first: connected first, then untested, then failing, then routing order. |
| Fallback | The next eligible route, used only if the selected one fails. Attempts are capped. |
| Execution | The provider call itself, with its measured latency and status. |
| Receipt | The record TAONIC writes for a request: capability, route, provider, subnet, latency, status, cost and a record ID. TAONIC writes it; the provider does not sign it. |
| Provider | A service TAONIC pays as a customer. None is a partner. |
| Subnet | A Bittensor network of miners and validators that serves one kind of work. |
| Eligible surplus PROPOSED | Recognised revenue after refunds, processor fees, provider costs, operating costs, a tax reserve and earlier deficits. Never below zero. |
| TAO reserve PROPOSED | TAO that would be bought from eligible surplus under a published rule. It does not exist, and customers would hold no claim on it. |
| TAON PROPOSED | The name of a token that has been proposed and is not deployed. |
| Service intent PROPOSED | A machine-readable description of a routed service that a program could discover, preview and run under a spending policy. |
| Policy ceiling | A spending limit a caller sets for a request or a period. Today only TAONIC’s own daily provider-spend ceiling exists. |
| Option 1, 2, 3 PROPOSED | The three mechanisms the concept book compares: ledger-first routing (recommended now), reserve-aligned TAON (gated) and contributor credits (later). |
| Micro-USD | One millionth of a dollar. TAONIC books every amount as a whole number of them. |
| Date (UTC) | Change |
|---|---|
| 2026-10-31 | Documentation restructured into eighteen task-based chapters. The economic chapters now state the recommended path, product first and token later, each marked PROPOSED. The homepage, Routes, Activity and Status were rebuilt around the live routing product. Nothing financial was deployed. |
| 2026-09-24 | Documentation published. Navigation is now Overview, Ask, Routes, Activity, Status and Docs. Routes shows every route’s state from the durable records. Activity separates this browser, accounts, service accounting and the economic flow. The gateway now refuses to call a paid provider when its spending guard cannot run. /api/accounting added. |
| 2026-09-21 | Durable request records and the provider spending guard went live on D1. Email sign-in was proven end to end in production, then switched off. The simulated economic pages were removed from the public site. |
| 2026-09-16 | Text answers went live through OpenRouter to Chutes on subnet 64. |
| 2026-09-15 | The router became multi-subnet: seven capabilities across five subnets, with fallback. |
| 2026-09-14 | TAONIC became an intelligence product first; the economic model became a proposal. |
| 2026-09-12 | taonic.tech went live. |
State words appear exactly this way on Status, Routes and in these pages.
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| VERIFIED | A check or a real request proved it, and the page says when. |
| CONNECTED | A route that is usable now and has completed a real request. |
| UNVERIFIED | A route that is configured and has not completed a real request yet. |
| PAUSED | A route the spending guard refused until 00:00 UTC, or the operator paused. |
| ADAPTER READY | Code that follows a provider’s documentation; not proof of anything live. |
| CONFIGURATION REQUIRED | A credential or setting is missing, so nothing is sent. |
| FAILED | Its recent checks or requests failed. |
| UNAVAILABLE | Not established, or not reachable, with the reason stated. |
| OFF | Built and switched off on purpose. |
| PROPOSED | A design no authority has approved. |
| DESIGN | How something would work, written down; nothing built. |
| IN DEVELOPMENT | Being built; not usable yet. |
| NOT DEPLOYED | A contract or system that does not exist. |
| EXTERNAL PROVIDER | Run by someone else; TAONIC is a customer. |
| Route | One provider doing one kind of work, reached one way. |
| Capability | A kind of question: Answer, Search, Market, Check a claim, Image, Speech, Find a match. |
| Subnet | A Bittensor network whose miners do one kind of work, identified by a number (netuid). |
| Micro-USD | One millionth of a dollar. Every amount in TAONIC’s records is a whole number of them. |
| Eligible surplus | Revenue left after provider cost, refunds and fees. Zero today. |
| Spending guard | The daily ceiling on what TAONIC itself spends at providers. |
| TAON | A proposed ticker. No token exists. |
Every state on this page matches Status. Where they ever differ, Status is right and this page is a defect.
